University of Pittsburgh 2024 Ask Pitt Alumni


The following are the official rules of the sweepstakes.

1. Eligibility: To be eligible, the entrant must be a student of the University of Pittsburgh during the Entry Period and must have submitted a question to Ask Pitt Alumni within the Entry Period as provided in Section 2. NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER THE SWEEPSTAKES. By participating, you agree to these sweepstakes rules and to the decisions of the University, which are final and binding in all respects. Void outside the United States and in any jurisdiction where prohibited by law, rule, or regulation. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.

2. To Enter: The sweepstakes period begins at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Monday April 8, 2024, and ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Friday, May 3, 2024 (the “Entry Period”). To enter, submit a question to the Ask Pitt Alumni platform. Limit one entry per person. NO PURCHASE OR CONSIDERATION OF ANY KIND IS REQUIRED TO ENTER THE SWEEPSTAKES. Any attempt by any entrant to obtain more than the stated number of entries by using multiple/different email addresses, identities, registrations and logins, or any other methods will void that entrant's entries and that entrant may be disqualified. Use of any automated system to participate is prohibited and will result in disqualification. The University is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, invalid, unintelligible, or misdirected registrations, which will be disqualified.

3. Winner Selection and Notification: he winners will be chosen on or about Monday, May 6, 2024 the University will choose the winners of the prizes identified in Section 4 by random drawing from among all eligible entries received during the Entry Period. The winner of the prize will be notified by email on or about Monday, May 6, 2024 and have up to fourteen (14) calendar days to accept or turn down the award. In the event that the University of Pittsburgh does not receive acceptance of a prize from a winner within fourteen (14) calendar days of the random drawing (including if the potential winner cannot be contacted), that winner will be disqualified, all rights to a prize will be forfeited, and an alternate potential winner will be selected from among the remaining eligible entries. Potential winners of a prize valued at $600 or more must return a completed IRS W9 within fourteen (14) calendar days of the University email requesting the W9. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. Only the prizes set forth in these sweepstakes rules will be awarded.

4. Prizes: total of one (1) prize will be awarded, as follows, one prize winner will be awarded (1) one Kodak Flik X7 Home Projector with an approximate retail value of $129.

5. General Prize Restriction: he University reserves the right, in its sole discretion to terminate, modify, cancel or suspend this sweepstakes and award prizes from among all eligible entries received prior to action taken by the University, should fraud, virus, bugs or other causes beyond the control of the University corrupt the administration, security or proper function of the sweepstakes. Prizes are not transferrable and may not be substituted for cash, except at the University’s sole discretion. If any prize is not available, the University reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. Any costs and expenses not stated for any prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.

THE UNIVERSITY MAKES NO WARRANTIES, AND HEREBY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, CONCERNING ANY PRIZE IN CONNECTION WITH THIS SWEEPSTAKES. WITHOUT LIMITING THE GENERALITY OF THE FOREGOING, PRIZES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, AND THE UNIVERSITY HEREBY DISCLAIMS ALL SUCH WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND/OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. SOME STATES DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO THE ABOVE EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY.

6. Limitation on Liability: BY PARTICIPATING IN THIS SWEEPSTAKES, EACH PARTICIPANT HEREBY RELEASES, DISCHARGES, AND AGREES TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS, THE UNIVERSITY AND ITS RESPECTIVE TRUSTEES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AFFILIATES, AGENTS AND REPRESENTATIVES (THE “RELEASED PARTIES”) FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS OR LIABILITY, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CLAIMS OR LIABILITY ARISING FROM PARTICIPATION IN THESE SWEEPSTAKES OR ACCEPTANCE, POSSESSION, MISUSE OR USE OF ANY PRIZE. Released Parties assume no responsibly for any injury, loss or damage to a participant’s or to any other person’s computer relating to, or resulting from, entering or downloading any information or software in connection with this sweepstakes. Released Parties are not responsible for technical, hardware, software or telephone malfunctions of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or late, failed, incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused by the participant, or any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this sweepstakes, or by any human or other errors that may occur in connection with this sweepstakes. By participating in these sweepstakes, the participant also agrees that participant shall not be entitled in any circumstance to punitive, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages, or any other damages, including associated attorneys’ fees.

7. Publicity: Except where legally prohibited, by entering winner grants permission for the University to use their name, photograph, voice and/or likeness, for advertising and/or publicity purposes without further consent or additional compensation.

8. Choice of Law and Jurisdiction: xcept where prohibited, all issues and questions concerning these sweepstakes rules or the rights and obligations of entrants or winners, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions. Any action seeking arising out of or relating to the sweepstakes shall be brought only in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County or in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Participants waive, to the fullest extent permitted by law, any objection which they may now or later have to the exclusive jurisdiction of or the laying of venue as provided herein, including any objections based upon inconvenient forum.

9. Tax: All federal, state, and local taxes on prizes and any other costs and expenses associated with prize acceptance and use not specified herein as being provided, are the sole responsibility of the applicable winner. An IRS form 1099 will be issued to winners of a prize valued at $600 or more, or as otherwise provided by applicable law.
