Nancy M.K. Merritt has joined the University of Pittsburgh as vice chancellor for alumni relations, bringing 17 years of experience to her new role along with plans to develop programs to help alumni to engage with students, pursue educational and professional opportunities, and enrich their personal and career networks.
In her most recent post as assistant vice president for alumni relations at Carnegie Mellon University, Merritt led a staff of 17 and implemented initiatives that improved experiences for alumni and students, including new reunion events, volunteer opportunities, and alumni recognition programs.
“Nancy is an experienced alumni relations professional who has progressively grown her responsibilities in alumni relations over nearly two decades,” said Kris Davitt, senior vice chancellor for philanthropic & alumni engagement. “She has created innovative and forward-thinking engagement opportunities that inspired alumni and students to get more involved, and I know that Pitt’s alumni near and far will benefit from her skilled leadership.”
Lisa Golden, president of the Pitt Alumni Association board of directors, touted Merritt’s energy, enthusiasm, and experience.
“We’re very excited to work with Nancy to create new programs that will provide our alumni with more and better ways to get involved with Pitt and one another,” Golden said.
Prior to her work at CMU, Merritt spent 13 years in alumni relations at Lehigh University, where she directed student, young alumni, outreach, and reunion programs before going on to serve as the director of the Lehigh University Alumni Association. Merritt holds two degrees from Lehigh: a bachelor of arts in journalism and communications and a master’s in political science.
“I’m really looking forward to building relationships with alumni leaders and establishing cross-campus partnerships to better serve Pitt alumni everywhere,” Merritt said. “This is an extraordinary community, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help guide its direction.”
