Show your Pride wherever you drive! University of Pittsburgh alumni, faculty, staff, and friends can purchase a University of Pittsburgh specialty license plate.
Place your order before Monday, December 31 to receive a Pitt license plate frame, logo keychain, and tote bag with "Hail to Pitt" on it!
Your application must be postmarked by December 31, 2018, to receive a free Pitt license plate frame, logo decal, and Roc keychain. Please note: the actual license plate will be sent from PennDOT and will take approximately 8 to 10 weeks to be completed. To ensure delivery of the license plate frame, decal, and keychain by December 24, please submit your application by December 15, 2018.
RIDE WITH PITT PRIDE
For a one-time fee, alumni and fans can display their love for Pitt and support their alumni association at the same time. $89-$93 of the purchase is considered a 100% tax-deductible donation to the University of Pittsburgh.
Standard numeric plates are $125. $32 of that total cost covers state fees while $93 is considered a 100% tax-deductible donation to the University of Pittsburgh.
Personalized plates are $225. $136 of that total cost covers state fees while $89 is considered a tax-deductible donation to the University of Pittsburgh.
How to purchase:
- Download the application.
- Fill out all sections and sign the application. Only fill out Section D if you are purchasing a personalized license plate.

Frequently Asked Questions
I already have a Pitt License Plate. Can I purchase the new Pitt script plate to replace my old one?
Yes you can purchase the new one, although you will have to fill out and mail the application with all applicable fees.
I already have a Pitt license plate. Can I purchase the new plate and keep the same license plate number on my old plate?
All new plates will be assigned a new license plate number. To keep your old number, you will need to purchase a personalized plate and send the application with all applicable fees. In Section D of the application, you may request your current license plate number.
I have the plate with the University’s seal. Can I keep that plate or do I need to purchase the new one?
There is no obligation to purchase the new Pitt script plate if you have the old one. All old University of Pittsburgh plates are still valid.
What states are the Pitt License plates available in?
Currently, Pitt license plates are only available in Pennsylvania, but we are working on making them available for purchase in other states. Please keep checking back for details!
Do I have to be a Pitt alum or member to purchase a plate?
No, all alumni, fans and friends are welcome to purchase the plate and show their Pitt pride.
Can I still purchase a plate with the University seal?
Unfortunately, no. The license plates with the University seal have been discontinued.
How long does it take to receive my plate?
The typical processing and production takes approximately 8-10 weeks.
Can I purchase a personalized Pitt license plate?
Yes, you can personalize your Pitt license plate for an additional $100 plate fee. Please see Section D of the application for more information. To check and see if your desired numeric and alphabetic configuration is available visit PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.state.pa.us, and select the Personalized Registration Plate Availability link from the list of services under the Online Driver and Vehicle Services heading.
Am I able to purchase the license plate as a gift?
Yes, you can purchase the license plate for someone else, but you will need to make sure the application contains information for the vehicle and owner that the plate will be used for.
Can I purchase a plate to hang in my home or office as decoration?
No, all plates must be registered to a vehicle in order for your application to be accepted.
