1. Why should I join the Pitt Alumni Association?

Membership is the easiest way to stay connected to Pitt and it provides a gateway to involvement at the University of Pittsburgh. With every new member, we grow in strength–and a strong alumni association means a stronger University.

2. Do I have to be a graduate of Pitt to join?

No. Friends of the University are welcome to join as associate members of the Association and receive the same benefits and services.

3. Is my membership tax deductible?

Under IRS guidelines, the estimated value of any benefits you received from the Pitt Alumni Association is not substantial; therefore, your gift may be considered tax-deductible. We recommend that you contact your tax advisor directly.

4. What is the difference between an annual membership and a life membership?

Annual members pay their dues yearly; life members pay in either one lump sum or over a period of years through an installment plan. Life membership dollars help to support the alumni association's endowment while annual dollars directly support alumni programming and critical alumni and student initiatives.

5. As an annual member, how do I renew my membership?

Approximately six weeks before your membership is due to expire you will receive a renewal notice in the mail with instructions for renewing. You may also renew online or by calling 1-800-ALU-PITT (800-258-7488).

6. I already make donations to Pitt. Does that make me an alumni association member?

No. The Pitt Alumni Association is grateful for and encourages your support of the University through the Annual Fund Program, Panther Club, etc. However, this does not make you an active alumni association member. The Pitt Alumni Association is a dues-paying organization that offers both annual and life membership payment options.

7. What will I receive in the mail when I join the Pitt Alumni Association?

Approximately two weeks after your application and payment is processed, you will receive a membership card and an information card with details on accessing your membership benefits. You will also receive the publication Alumni Connections three times a year. (Please note: Life membership materials may take two to three weeks to arrive.)

8. What are the benefits of being a member of the Pitt Alumni Association?
