Pitt Announces Chancellor’s Global Advisory Council

Chancellor Pat Gallagher has announced the formation of the Chancellor’s Global Advisory Council (CGAC) in support of its global strategy. Comprised of accomplished alumni from eight countries and multiple sectors of the global economy, the CGAC will advise the chancellor and academic and administrative leaders on research, education, and outreach activities.

Every summer, Pitt alumni clubs host Pitt Send-Off gatherings, ranging from backyard barbecues to baseball outings, to welcome the newest class of Pitt students to the Pitt family. Send-offs help connect incoming students and families to each other, current students, and alumni in the region.

2017 Pitt Alumni Association Pregame Events

Prowl with the Panthers! The Pitt Alumni Association will host pregame events at Penn State, Georgia Tech, and Duke this season in addition to its traditional Homecoming Pregame Event that will be held at Heinz Field. All events include a full buffet, cash or hosted bar (varies by location), and special appearances by the Pitt cheerleaders, dance team, and Roc, plus musical entertainment.

Pitt Names New University Honors College Dean

Brian A. Primack has been named the Bernice L. and Morton S. Lerner Chair and dean of the University of Pittsburgh’s University Honors College. Currently, he is a scholarly researcher and the Leo H. Criep Endowed Chair in Patient Care in Pitt’s School of Medicine. Primack’s deanship begins on July 1, 2017.

The Finnish Nationality Room

The Finnish Room depicts a farmstead, where educational instruction took place in early Finland before schools were built. The Finnish Room design was developed from a prize-winning plan submitted in 2006 by Finnish architect Mika Gröndahl and expanded later by Frank Eld, an American expert on Finnish log cabins. Support the Finnish Nationality Room EngagePitt™ fundraising campaign and help them reach their $5,000 goal to fund the construction of this room.

Pitt Is It in Philadelphia Recap

More than 150 alumni attended the Pitt Is It in Philadelphia event on June 1. Chancellor Pat Gallagher welcomed guests in Philadelphia and throughout the country as the event was broadcast on Facebook Live. Guests were also treated to remarks by faculty member Dr. Philip Empey, PharmD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, who discussed advancements Pitt is making in precision medicine.

Women's Choral Ensemble 90-Year Celebration: Oct. 15

Pitt Team Develops Test to Detect Hidden HIV Virus

Scientists at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health announced in Nature Medicine that they’ve created a test sensitive enough to detect “hidden” HIV, and yet is faster, less labor-intensive, and less expensive than the current “gold standard” test.
