How the Pitt Matching Scholarship Program Works

Why Endowing a Scholarship is So Important

How to Give to an Endowed Scholarship

How does the Pitt Matching Endowed Scholarship Program Work?

First, the local Pitt club awards a scholarship from the Endowed Student Scholarship Fund for the selected student for the student’s freshman year.  Then, through the Pitt Club Endowed Matching Program, the PAA and the OAFA, in a special partnership, each provide l/2 of the amount the Club awarded to the student in year’s two, three, and four for that student, provided the scholarship is from an endowed fund, and the student maintains a 3.0 GPA and achieves satisfactory academic progress as defined by OAFA.

The PAA and OAFA will match up to $2,000 per year for the student that the local Pitt Club selected.  Therefore, a $2,000 scholarship awarded by a Club from its endowment, turns into an $8,000 award over the four years the Club’s scholarship student is at Pitt.

Why is Endowing a Scholarship So Important?

The University of Pittsburgh strives to recruit the best and the brightest students nationwide and to increase scholarship support for University of Pittsburgh students.  An endowed scholarship is the “gift that keeps on giving.”  Once the fund is in place, it continues to earn interest and pays the scholarship each year.  Therefore, the Pitt club does not have to keep raising the funds each year to pay the award.

An endowed scholarship can help the Pitt club attract their local prospective students to Pitt.  This local scholarship could be the deciding factor for the student whether or not he/she attends the University of Pittsburgh.

We ask you to consider…

A Multi-Year Chancellor’s Circle Leadership Annual Fund Gift, if you are in a position to make a gift of $5,000, ($l,000 for 5 years).  Also, remember if you work for a 1:1 matching gift company, your gift may be worth $10,000 over 5 years if you apply for the matching company funds.  Gifts at any level are greatly appreciated by the University, the area Pitt Club, and the student scholars that the Club’s endowment supports.
