Participate in the Inaugural “Alumni Insights” Event, October 9

Please join us for the inaugural “Alumni Insights” event on Friday, October 9. The event will take place at the School of Information Sciences (SIS) and will begin at 1:30 pm with an update from Dean Ronald L. Larsen, followed by two workshop sessions and a networking break. Join us for the 2015 Alumni Awards, October 9

Each year, SIS recognizes the achievements of outstanding alumni. On Friday, October 9, we'll be honoring Steven S. Choi (PhD ‘76), Chris Geary (MSIS ‘98), and Tim Schlak (MLIS ’07, PhD '10) at the annual Alumni Awards event. The ceremony and reception will take place in the Student Collaboration Center on the third floor of the Information Sciences Building (135 N. Bellefield Avenue) from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The School of Information Sciences Congratulates the July 2015 Graduates

SIS celebrated its 2015 summer graduates at the summer recognition ceremony on Friday, July 24. More than 150 family, friends, and supporters joined graduates at the O’Hara Student Center for the ceremony led by Dean Ronald L. Larsen. Read more.


The School of Information Sciences to Sponsor College & Research Division Luncheon at 2015 PaLA Conference

SIS will sponsor the College and Research Division Luncheon at the 2015 Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) Conference, on Tuesday, October 6 from 12:15 pm to 1:45 pm. SIS’ Library and Information Science program will also have a book in the exhibit hall, so please stop by and say hello.


David Tipper Promoted to Professor

We are pleased to share the news that Chancellor Gallagher has promoted Telecommunications Program Chair and Associate Professor David Tipper, to the rank of Full Professor, effective September 1, 2015. The promotion recognizes his many accomplishments in research, teaching, and administration. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering and an MS in systems engineering from the University of Arizona, and a BS from Virginia Tech. Learn more.


School of Information Sciences Faculty Paper Wins Best Paper Award at IEEE/ACM CCGrid 2015

Congratulations to SIS Assistant Professor Balaji Palanisamy for receiving the Best Paper Award at the 15th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud, and Grid Computing (IEEE/ACM CCGrid 2015) recently held in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China for his paper entitled, "Deferred Lightweight Indexing for Log-Structured Key-Value Stores.” Palanisamy co-authored the paper with Yuzhe Tang (Syracuse University), Arun Iyengar (IBM Research), Wei Tan (IBM Research), Liana Fong (IBM Research), and Ling Liu (Georgia Tech). All SIS alumni are invited to join faculty, staff, and students for light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments at the monthly Social Hour. This is a great opportunity to network, discuss ideas, get to know each other, talk about conferences, travel, and research ideas, and to play a few games together.
