Act 31 Compliance

All Pennsylvania dentists and hygienists are required to complete at least 2 hours of training in child abuse recognition and reporting for March 31, 2015 re-licensure. This training must be approved by the PA Department of Human Services and Department of State to meet mandated reporting (Act 31) license requirements.

There is a free online training course that meets these requirements and is approved for 3 continuing education credits. All training data will be submitted directly to the PA Department of State for licensure, but you should maintain confirmation of completion for your records.

T.F. Bowser Continuing Education Lecture– March 21

The 21st Annual T.F. Bowser Memorial Lecture by Dr. David Meinz – “Diet and Dentistry in the 21st Century” will be held in Scaife Hall, lecture rooms 5 & 6, from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Dr. Meinz shares the latest information on what you need to know about the oral and systemic health connection, sugar substitutes, vitamin supplements, and the future potential role of dental professionals in total patient care. You will learn about the best and worst foods for teeth, how to increase your personal energy, and much more. Dental Alumni Association Annual Business Meeting – March 21

We invite all alumni to please join us for the Annual Business Meeting immediately following the Bowser Lecture in lecture rooms 5 & 6 Scaife Hall.

Dental Hygiene Program Alumni Spring Luncheon, March 21

Building on the enthusiasm generated by our 50th Anniversary Celebration, we are planning a Dental Hygiene Alumni Luncheon immediately following the T.F. Bowser Memorial Lecture in Salk Hall. Please join us to reconnect with friends and classmates, lunch and a tour of the dental hygiene clinic. You can also receive continuing education credit by viewing our second-year student table clinic presentations. A portion of your $25 will support the dental hygiene scholarship fund.

Distinguished Alumni to be Honored at Dean's Scholarship Ball – April 11

The Fifteenth Annual Dean's Scholarship Ball will be held on April 11, 2015 at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. The 2015 honorees include: Dr. Robert J. Weyant (DMD ’82) – Distinguished Alumnus- Dental Medicine; Dr. Joseph A. Giovannitti (DMD ’77, DEN Anesth. ’79) – Distinguished Alumnus – Advanced Education Programs; Ms. Susan Holstein Michaylo (DH ’84) – Distinguished Alumna – Dental Hygiene. Homecoming 2015 – Date-To-Be-Determined

The University of Pittsburgh Homecoming date will not be announced until late spring but the School of Dental Medicine will plan to host a reception during Homecoming Weekend. It’s not too early to start planning for class reunion dinners for class years ending in 5 and 0.
