Pitt Dental Homecoming – October 9, 2015

The Pitt Dental Alumni Association invites you to come home to the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine for homecoming. Join fellow alumni from the dental school for a dynamic weekend.

Homecoming isn’t just for those classes celebrating a reunion; we welcome all members of our alumni community to come back to campus. The homecoming continuing education course will be in room 355 Salk Hall starting at 8:30 a.m. Kick off the evening at the Dental Alumni Association Homecoming Reception at the University Club at 5:30 p.m. After the reception, classes ending in 0 and 5 will hold individual class reunion dinners at 6:30 p.m.; you are welcome to join these classes for dinner regardless of your class year.

2015-16 ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership Class

Dr. Christine Wankiiri-Hale, Associate Dean for Student Affairs (first row, far right below) was recently selected for the ADA 2015-16 class of the Institute for Diversity in Leadership. The ADA Institute for Diversity in Leadership is designed to enhance the leadership skills of dentists who belong to racial, ethnic and/or gender backgrounds that have been traditionally underrepresented in leadership roles. The Institute provides an opportunity to gain leadership experience, strengthen professional networks and set new leadership paths in the profession and community. As a key part of the leadership learning experience, each participant designs and completes a personal leadership project for their community or the profession.

2015 White Coat Ceremony

The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine welcomed the incoming classes of Dental Medicine and Dental Hygiene students to our family on August 31, 2015. Dean Thomas Braun greeted the new students and Dr. Wade Newman, President of the Pennsylvania Dental Association gave remarks. We appreciate the support we received from the Harry K. Zohn (DMD ’84) and Cecile A. Feldman, DMD White Coat Endowment Fund as well as contributions from alumni, faculty, staff, and friends. A video of the white coat ceremony can be viewed online.

Dental Alumni Association Board Members

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our returning and new Dental Alumni Association Board Members for 2015-2016. New board members include: Dr. Rachel Eglash (DMD ’03), Dr. Joe Ross (DMD ’83), and Dr. Katelyn Woods (DMD ’12). Dr. Woods, who is a currently employed at UPMC Children’s Hospital, will be taking the second part of her board certification of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry in October and getting married in November. Dr. Eglash is a practicing general dentist in Squirrel Hill and enjoys traveling with her husband and children. Dr. Ross practices in New Castle, is active in organized dentistry, and recently announced his candidacy for President-elect of the Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA).

Call for Nominations - November 1, 2015

The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine is seeking nominations for its Distinguished Alumni of the Year Awards. Recipients will be recognized at the 2016 Dean’s Scholarship Ball. The nomination deadline is Sunday, November 1, 2015.

A one-page biographical sketch of each nominee must accompany the nomination. Please send your nomination and biographical sketch to:
