Dean’s Blog: Global Experience Isn’t Just for Students: Why Professors Need It Too
In his latest blog entry, Dean John T. Delaney writes that business professors, regardless of their discipline, must spend time overseas to develop their understanding of global business. Gaining the immersive experiences is the only way to effectively teach international business to students.

CBA Students Win National Mazda Competition
A team of CBA students won the 2014 Mazda3 College Championship. This past semester, in their Projects in Marketing course, they organized themselves into an ad agency and brainstormed, developed, and executed the campaign, which they called “What Drives You?,” to market the Mazda3 to younger car buyers.

Katz Alumnus Named Dean of University of South Carolina Business School
Peter Brews, a 1996 graduate of the Katz PhD program, has been named dean of the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business. He is a professor of strategy and entrepreneurship at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and former professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

2014 BNY Mellon Katz Invitational Case Competition Fast Approaching
On January 24-25, the Katz School is hosting top business schools from around the country for its signature case competition, which this year is centered around the energy industry. The competition will award prizes of $10,000, $5,000, and $3,000 to the top three teams.

Attend the CONNECT 2014 Networking Luncheon
Start the new year by building your Pittsburgh region business network at a special networking luncheon at The Rivers Club downtown. Although the event is sponsored by Katz, the luncheon is open to all experienced business professionals.

Dean Delaney Completes Successful India Trip
Dean John T. Delaney and Alumni Director Jim Waite recently traveled to India for successful meetings with alumni in Bangalore, New Delhi, and Mumbai from December 9-12. The events were held in conjunction with the Swanson School of Engineering, which also has a strong alumni base in India.

Katz Alumnus Published in Harvard Business Review
Jordan Cohen, a 1989 graduate of the MBA and Master in Health Administration program, is the author of an article in the December edition titled, “How an Auction Can Identify Your Best Talent.” He explores the idea of creating auction-like markets within our corporations.

Katz Alumnus Publishes New Book on Job Market Conflict
F. Ted Haner (MBA ’55, and A&S PHD ’59) is the author of a new book, titled “The Technology of Chaos: Structural Change in Global Job Markets & Managing Sociopolitical Instability.” The book focuses on the conflict in the job market between the “haves” and “have nots.”
