Pitt Students, Alumni Awarded 2018 NSF Fellowships

Eleven University of Pittsburgh students and four alumni were awarded a 2018 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program is designed to ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce in the United States. The program recognizes and supports outstanding students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees.

Alumni Volunteers Needed for Commencement 2018

The University of Pittsburgh Office of Special Events is seeking alumni volunteers to assist with the 2018 Commencement Convocations at the Petersen Events Center. The Graduate Ceremony is Thursday, April 26 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The Undergraduate Ceremony is Sunday, April 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lawrence Feick Named Interim President of Pitt-Titusville and Pitt-Bradford Campuses

The University of Pittsburgh has named Lawrence Feick as interim president of its campuses in Bradford and Titusville. Currently Pitt’s vice provost for special projects, Feick has served as provost liaison to all four of Pitt’s regional campuses.

Pitt Names New Dean of Dental Medicine

Bernard J. Costello, Pitt professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery, has been named dean of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Costello has been serving as interim dean since February 2018 and began his deanship on April 1.

Pitt Names New Dean for Swanson School of Engineering

James R. Martin II, the Bob Benmosche Professor and Chair of the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University, has been named dean of the University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering. He will begin his deanship on Aug. 15.
