While Pitt alumni throughout the U.S. and across the world will be holding our annual Pitt Networking Day events, Philadelphia will have the special honor of welcoming University of Pittsburgh Chancellor Patrick Gallagher at their alumni reception on Thursday, June 1.

Alumni Survey

In May, all Pitt alumni will be asked to complete an online survey being conducted by SimpsonScarborough, a higher education market research firm. Alumni will receive either an e-mail or postcard by May 15 directing them to the survey, which has been designed to help us to better understand how the University of Pittsburgh can enrich the alumni experience and inspire our remarkable alumni community to get engaged and stay connected to Pitt and with one another.

Pitt in Harrisburg Recap

On Monday, March 21, the Pitt Alumni Association, in conjunction with the Keystone Pitt Club, hosted Pitt Is It in Harrisburg. Guests were treated to a “State of the University” talk from Chancellor Patrick Gallagher and a presentation on “Exercise as Medicine” by the chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and director of the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute, Dr. Gwendolyn Sowa.  On Tuesday, March 22, the Pitt Alumni Association and the Office of Community and Governmental Relations sponsored Pitt Day in Harrisburg. Approximately 250 alumni, students, faculty, and staff from all five campuses descended upon the Capitol to tell their Pitt story and advocate on behalf of the University.

Pitt's prosthetic arm that can "feel" is 2016’s most innovative idea

Scientists at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center who worked on a prosthetic arm that can “feel” are the winners of the first STAT Madness bracket. The competition pitted 32 innovative discoveries published in peer-reviewed journals last year against one another to find the best new ideas in science and medicine.

Rob A. Rutenbar has been named the University of Pittsburgh’s senior vice chancellor for research. In this newly established position, he will lead the University’s strategic vision for research and innovation, enhancing existing technological partnerships.

The 2016 season was the best in Pitt men's club water polo history. Help the team build on this success by supporting its EngagePitt™ fundraising campaign. Funds will be used to pay league dues, purchase new caps, and travel to tournaments.

A new brain pathway has been identified by neuroscientists at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh Brain Institute that could underlie our ability to make the coordinated hand movements needed to reach out and manipulate objects in our immediate surroundings.
