Virginia Pitt License Plate Preorder
RIDE WITH PITT PRIDE
The University of Pittsburgh is pleased to launch a program to offer University of Pittsburgh license plates in the state of Virginia! The Pitt license plate is a great way for alumni and fans to display their Pitt pride wherever they drive.
Because the state of Virginia requires that we collect a minimum of 350 license plate applications and checks for the corresponding fees from registered Virginia drivers, we are asking Virginia residents to preorder their Pitt license plates by submitting an application and a check today. The standard numeric Pitt license plates will cost $25 annually and vanity plates will cost $35 annually.
Once we reach 350 preorders, we will cash all checks and submit applications for the state to start fulfilling the orders and producing the plates. In the event we do not receive the minimum 350 applicants by August 15, 2018, all applications and checks will be returned to individuals who preorder their plates and the state of Virginia will not produce any Pitt plates.
How to preorder:
- Download the application.
- Fill out all sections and sign the application.
- Mail the application and check payable to University of Pittsburgh to:

For questions about the license plate program, please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Am I able to purchase the license plate as a gift?
Yes, you can purchase the license plate for someone else, but you will need to make sure the application contains information for the vehicle and owner that the plate will be used for.
Can I purchase a plate to hang in my home or office as decoration?
No, all plates must be registered to a vehicle in order for your application to be accepted.
Do I have to be a Pitt alum or member to purchase a plate?
No, all alumni, fans and friends are welcome to purchase the plate and show their Pitt pride.
I already submitted my application and check. Why has the check not been cashed?
Because the state of Virginia requires us to collect 350 preorders, we will hold all applications and checks until we reach that threshold. Once we reach 350 preorders, we will cash all checks and submit the applications and fees to Virginia DOT. If we do not reach 350 preorders by end of August, we will mail checks and applications back to those who submitted and no plates will be produced.
Is the $25 or $35 fee a one-time fee or annual fee?
The $25 or $35 fee is an annual fee. During the preorder phase those fees will be paid to the University of Pittsburgh. The annual renewal fee will be requested by and paid to the state of Virginia.
How long will it take before I receive my plate?
For individuals that preorder, the state of Virginia estimates that it will take approximately 9 months from the time the preorder phase begins.
